About the Maine Lobster Feast
Since 2011 the annual benefit dinner has brought community minded people together over a delicious meal. Lobster bakes have been a family tradition in Woody’s family for generations. The purpose for the Lobster Feast is to raise funds and awareness for people living with paralysis in our local community. In this regard the money raised will benefit both The Sabrina Cohen Foundation and The Woody Foundation.
The Sabrina Cohen Foundation
The Sabrina Cohen Foundation (SCF) is a 501c3 nonprofit organization dedicated to developing adaptive fitness and recreational programs that provide a better quality of life for individuals living with paralysis and various disabilities.
In 2016, SCF launched “Adaptive Beach Days,” a twice-monthly, pop-up program that provides full-service access into the ocean with the help of trained staff and volunteers, access decks, beach wheelchairs and other adaptive equipment. To date, they have welcomed thousands of residents throughout South Florida and tourists from all over the world to experience beach access.
With the success of our “Adaptive Beach Days” program, opening “Sabrina’s Playground,” word of mouth and social media, SCF has attracted local, national and international attention. Today, they are expanding from “pop-up” programming to building a permanent Center for year round beach access, providing even greater opportunities for the disabled community. The development of the “Adaptive Recreation Center” will be a first-of-a-kind oceanfront facility on the east coast catering exclusively to individuals with mobility challenges – from children to adults to seniors. Visitors will indulge in a uniquely empowering experience, combining indoor and beachside physical fitness with recreational activities that promote mental and spiritual wellness in one central, safe and comfortable location. The Center will feature 3 floors of fitness and therapy spaces and rooftop pool, plus full-service beachside and water activities.
